• Fundamental and applied researches on genomes of Vietnamese peoples, sequencing whole genome of Vietnamese peoples
• Fundamental and applied researches on other genomes
• Fundamental and applied researches in the areas of omics sciences, bioinformatics and related fields
• Technology development,  technology deployment and transfer, consulting and services in the fields of omics, bioinformatics, genetic assessment and related fields
• Training highly qualified human resources and international cooperation in genomics and related fields
• Performing other duties assigned by the President of VAST
